Getting into vaping can mean learning a whole other language of terminologies. Don’t let this affect or intimidate you. Truth is, most of it is not all that necessary to know if all you want to do is just vape and stay off the stinkies (tobacco). The basic stuff you need to know is already across our site in the “?” boxes in order to help guide you through your buying experience with us.  But you may want to get further into it or you’ve been hearing terms from other vapers and are just curious to understand. Either way, here’s a list of some of our many terms and slangs.

510: This is another type of connection or threading between a tank or atomizer and a battery.

Atomizer coil: The atomizer coil is the heart of an e-cigarette. It is a heating element that with help of the battery heats the liquid and creates the vapor.

ADV- All Day Vape. The e liquid that you personally enjoy over any other and can vape on all day long without it getting old.

Analog cigarette
A regular tobacco cigarette.

Atty
Abbreviation for atomizer.

Batt
Abbreviation of the word battery.

BDC– Bottom dual coil.

BT
Big tobacco companies.

Cig-alike: The entry level e-cigarette that is a look alike with tobacco cigarettes, hence “cig-alike”. While this used to be “entry level”, it is slowly becoming less popular as there are better, more reliable devices for the entry level user.

Clouds– The vapor that is exhaled when smoking electronic cigarettes is referred to as clouds.

Cut off
Refers to how long the battery will activate the atomiser before shutting down temporarily as a safety measure to protect the atomiser.

Diacetyl – Diacetyl is a flavoring used in some e-liquid production for it’s buttery flavor. Can cause Bronchiolitis obliterans (otherwise known as Popcorn Lung) if inhaled in large concentrations. SmileNvape e-juices do NOT contain any Diacetyl. We made sure of it.

Draw
To take a puff

Dripping: This method is when you would use a drip tip (mouthpiece that goes on the atomizer) and you drip your juice directly onto the atomizer (heating coil) Avid vapers love this as it produces clouds of vapor and gives a much elevated taste/flavor. However some don’t prefer this as it requires to always drip more e-liquid between 5-10 puffs.

Drip Tips: This is a mouthpiece

E-cig
Abbreviation for electronic cigarette.

Ejuice- The solution that is vaporized within the atomizer tank. Also referred to as E-liquid, Juice, or Smoke Juice.

eGo style: This is the most commonly used e-cig, they come in different sizes and colors and usually are manually operated devices via a small button located at the top of the device, or even better, a touch sensor at the bottom of the battery. Ego style can also be referred to the threading of a tank and battery. SmileNvape TOUCH tanks are “ego style” threading. So if you say “that’s an ego style tank” you’re basically saying that the tank fits onto an ego style battery, and vice versa.

Flooding – This occurs when too much e liquid is put into the atomizer. The indicator of flooding is a gurgling sound and the performance of the atomizer is sometimes negatively affected. To fix this, remove your atomizer shake it into a sink for a few seconds. This should remove the excess liquid.

Inhale
The act of breathing the vapour into your lungs.

Juice
See e-liquid.

mAh
Abbreviation for Milliampere-hour, which is used to describe the capacity or energy charge that a battery will hold before it needs recharging.

Low Resistance (LR)– An atomizer with a lower Ohm rating than the standard equipment. This generally causes the heating element to get hotter faster and produces vapor more quickly.

Lung hit-Alternative to mouth to lung hits, lung hits are inhales of vapor straight to the lungs. Usually requires massive airflow. Kind of like the way you would inhale off of a shisha/hookah

Mg strength
Milligram strength per millilitre (ml) - relates to the percentage of nicotine contained within the e-liquid. For example, 18mg is 18mg of nicotine per ml which is approximately 1.8% nicotine.

MOD This is a term used to describe the big battery “e-cigs”, the ones that usually look sort of like flashlights. The name mod comes from the fact that they were originally a “modified electronic cig” Modified for usage with bigger batteries. There are several different shapes and sizes of “mods” from boxes, to big tubes so basically anything that is not an eGo style or a cig alike is considered a mod, or more accurately an APV.

Mouth to lung hit – Vapor is pulled into the mouth first and then inhaled into the lungs. Can provide more flavor in the mouth.

(Nic)– Nicotine, the substance found within traditional and electronic cigarettes that creates a pleasant sensation. An alkaloid found in tobacco and other plans of the nightshade family. We offer this in various strengths, including ZERO nicotine.

Ohm (Ω)
The standard unit of electrical resistance.

Pass-through: An e-cig that can be vaped while it is charging. This one requires the pass through charging cord.

PG
Propylene Glycol (PG) is a colourless, nearly odourless FDA approved ingredient found in e-liquids. PG is commonly mixed in solution with nicotine and flavourings to make e-liquid. PG is used is to dilute the nicotine, give the solution a thinner viscosity and provide a good throat hit. PG is also a flavor carrier. So higher PG, means stronger flavor in a e-liquid.

Protected (batteries)
A battery which has a computer chip at the base, which protects the battery and breaks the circuit in the battery from completing if the voltage goes too high or too low, the current goes too high or the cell temperature rises too high. SmileNvape batteries are all protected batteries

Pull
The act of sucking on the mouthpiece to pull the vapor into your mouth.

PV and APV: Stands for “Personal vaporizer”, another word for electronic cigarette.  APV stands for “advanced personal vaporizer”, for the advanced vaper.

Rebuildable atomizer
A form of advanced atomiser featuring a user-replaceable coil which can be rebuilt many times

RBA – Rebuildable atomizer, these are your more advanced systems that are intended not for the novice vaper. The atomizer section is rebuilt by you taking the raw materials making your own wicks and coils.

RDA – Rebuildable Dripping Atomizer

RDTA – Rebuildable Dripping Tank Atomizer

Resistance In so many other words, the lower the resistance of your atomizer/coil the lower the voltage needed to get a good vape. The higher the resistance the higher you can turn your voltage up and get a warmer thicker vape. For instance, the resistance on the coil inside a SmileNvape Touch tank is 1.8ohms, this means you adjust your battery voltage (if a variable voltage bat) up to around 4.6 volts without getting a burning taste and still a bigger amount of vapor. When dripping/sub ohming, resistance is calculated in in a whole other way. When you reach this point of vaping, you’ll already know all of this.

RTA – Rebuildable tank atomizer

Steeping– Allowing your e liquid to sit for a while (typically a couple weeks) and to allow the flavors inside to fully develop to their full affect.

Stinkies- Another slang word used for tobacco cigarettes

Sub-Ohming- The practice by experienced vapers to increasing the current from your specific battery and by (using the principles of Ohms Law), reduce the ohms of the coils below one to achieve massive vaping clouds.

Tank: The part of the e-cig that holds/stores the e-liquid until it is vaped.

TH / Throat Hit
The tingling sensation felt in the back of the throat when inhaling.

Topping off
Refilling your e-cigarette tank

Vaping: A person using a personal vaporizer AKA E cig.

Vape, vaping
The use of an electronic cigarette - similar to the term "smoking" when referring to an analog cigarette.

Vaper
The name given to the user of the electronic cigarette - similar to the term "smoker" when referring to an analog cigarette user

Vaper’s Tongue  This is a common problem among many vapers when you vape too much of one flavor, and your taste buds become desensitized to the flavor. Kinda like when you’re chewing food on one side of your mouth and need to move it around in your mouth in order to continue to taste the flavors. To avoid or fix this problem, drink a lot of water, or switch to another flavor for a day or two, then you could go back and enjoy your original e-liquid flavor.

Vape mail- A term used for anything to do with vape stuff arriving in the mail. Probably one of the most exciting things for a vaper.

Vapor
The smoke-like mist that is emitted from an electronic cigarette.

Vent holes
Special holes made in the casing of high-end PVs or mods, to vent battery gases away from the face in case of battery explosion

VG
Vegetable Glycerine – an FDA approved and common ingredient found in e-liquid. Sweet tasting and of low allergen, it is thicker than Propylene Glycol and is what produces the vapor. The higher the VG percentage, the thicker the vapor.

VV
Abbreviation for Variable Voltage. Describes a mod or APV which features the ability for the user to alter the voltage produced by the device in order to change the vaping experience.

Watts
Used to measure/describe the power output or heat produced.

Wick
An atomiser's heating element is wrapped around a wick which will continually supply e-liquid to the coil.
